Definition of the term diskmag
In [Adok 99], diskmags were defined as "electronic magazines that can be read using a computer" which had to fulfil some extra requirements such as being spread on disk. Now in 2005, I would like to propose the following new definitions:
- Electronic magazines are magazines that can only be read using electronic equipment, such as a computer. However, this does not exclude the possibility of printing the articles out to paper.
- Online magazines are electronic magazines that can only be read online, when connected to an online network.
- Offline magazines are electronic magazines that can be read offline, without being connected to an online network.
- Diskmags in a wider sense are all offline magazines. In a narrower sense, diskmags are offline magazines which are based on an executable file and facultatively one or several data files.
These definitions are logically consistent and well descriptive.
